Justin Bieber has had enough of being bullied online and has deleted his Instagram account.
Bieber’s shocking exit from the platform prompted many to trend #JustinDeactivatedParty on Twitter once the news spread.
It turns out the superstar wasn’t bluffing when he warned his 77.8 million followers that he would set his account to private if the harassment by some of his fans continued. On Tuesday morning, Bieber took it offline completely after first switching his account to private.

According to multiple Justin Bieber fan Twitter update accounts, Bieber “liked” an emotive video which showed him hugging numerous fans while a piano version of his hit “Sorry” played in the background, just before his Instagram disappeared. The clip was titled “I love my Beliebers.”

Shortly after the “Sorry” superstar removed his account, his former girlfriend Selena Gomez took to Snapchat to share reflective words that seemed to nod to her blasting the Biebs’ on his Instagram on Saturday, where she told her ex that he had no right to complain about the abuse sent to him and his rumored girlfriend, Sofie Richie.
“What I said was selfish and pointless,” Gomez, 24, wrote on Snapchat.

Is that an apology? Who knows. But, it does seem to be some acknowledgement from Selena that her needless involvement in Bieber’s decision to address the bullying and abuse he and Richie received, was “opportunistic,” and “passive aggressive” as numerous media outlets have reported.
It’s worth noting that after Gomez flounced off Bieber’s Instagram, she spent the next 10-12 hours or so “liking” fan-posted Instagram videos and pictures which shaded her ex, which evidently shows that her motives in ripping her former teenage sweetheart had nothing whatsoever to do with “defending” Beliebers and were about Gomez’s own personal resentments. It’s apparent that the pop princess just wanted to hurt Bieber, score some points, and most likely grab headlines.
After all, this is the same Ms. Gomez who has repeatedly insisted she is “so done” with talking about or being linked to Bieber. Yet, she apparently decided it was necessary to go to his Instagram account to make clearly derisory comments that would obviously generate press and inflame fans’ drama.

Bieber’s drastic move of deleting his Instagram followed days of online hate being directed to him and 17-year-old Richie (daughter of veteran singer Lionel) from Bieber fans furious over the pop icon’s new relationship.
Already angry Beliebers were provoked into more rage after trolling fans tweeted out screenshots of photoshopped Instagram messages and falsely claimed they were shared by Richie. This added to the vitriol fans left at Bieber and Richie’s Instagrams after the Grammy winner posted a series of selfies of the pair on Saturday.
Inevitably, fans left vicious messages under the pictures. In addition to the “#KillYourselfSofieRichie” hashtag, some crudely speculated over the pair’s relationship status, others posted snake emojis, and bodyshaming insults about Richie. Other vented in long essays themed around the notion that Bieber owes his life to fans.

On Saturday, the Biebs warned his fans that unless the deluge of attacks stopped, he would set his account private.
In the caption at the last of his photos with Richie, the singer wrote, “I’m gonna make my Instagram private if you guys don’t stop the hate.”
He added, “This is getting out of hand, if you guys are really fans you wouldn’t be so mean to people that I like.”

This riot act prompted Beliebers to drive #RIPBeliebers to the top Twitter trend worldwide. Many fans accused Justin of “forgetting” about them and their support. Other tweets claimed the heartthrob was “choosing” Sofia over them. Bizarrely, some said they were also upset that their idol called them fans and not Beliebers.
The furor reached boiling point when Gomez put her unsolicited 10 cents in by jumping onto Bieber’s Instagram and telling him that if he hadn’t posted photos of Sofia they would not have received abuse.
“If you can’t handle the hate then stop posting pictures of your girlfriend lol,” the actress-singer wrote snarkily, adding, “it should be special between you two only.”
Selena added, “Don’t be mad at your fans. They love you and supported you before anyone ever did,” before going back to her own Instagram account to post a collage of herself with fans alongside a gushing caption.

It was an odd thing for Gomez to write, given that Bieber was free to post whatever he wants on his former ‘gram, and it was reasonable for him to object to the harassment of him and Sofia, especially from some of his own fans. In addition, Gomez deleted her Instagram account back in 2012 after she received hate and also threatened to do so again this year after fans speculated that lyrics she sang in a car video were shading Bieber.
According to the screengrabs, Bieber replied to Gomez, writing, “It’s funny to see people that used me for attention and still trying to point the finger this way. Sad. All love.”
In a second message he wrote, “I’m not one for anyone receiving hate. Hope you can all be kind to my friends and each other.”

Hours after the Biebs danced off Instagram, TMZ reported that Gomez has been trying to get in touch with Justin but has been given a wide berth by the heartthrob. The celebrity news site alleges he feels Selena won’t let go and is constantly looking for ways to insert herself in his life.
The site reports sources say Bieber thinks Gomez evidently having an issue with his (then) threat to quit Instagram is ironic considering she did exactly the same thing earlier this year. Whether or not TMZ’s report is true, Gomez’s criticisms of her ex are hypocritical. As it stands now, the “Cold Water” singer is said to be “very over her.”
Perhaps, someday, Gomez will honestly be able to say the same about Bieber.
