Luke Skywalker Mystery: Why Is J.J. Abrams Hiding Legendary Jedi In ‘The Force Awakens’ Trailers?

We have a Luke Skywalker mystery that is all the buzz on social media. Why is director J.J. Abrams hiding the iconic Jedi from all the Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailers?

Even though we can not really answer that question, we do know that Abrams created the Luke Skywalker mystery on purpose and has kept the Star Wars original trilogy character under wraps for unknown reasons. The only hint we have so far is Mark Hamill’s voice, which narrated the second trailer released by Disney earlier this year.

In that clip we hear the character, portrayed by the original cast member, talking about his father — Darth Vader/Anakin Skywalker — and his sister — Leia Organa — and how they all have The Force with them. We also saw Luke’s mechanical hand, the one he lost in that devastating encounter where Darth Vader revealed, “I am your father.”

Without giving any details, Abrams recently said of the Luke Skywalker mystery, “It’s no accident.” In other words, he can tell anything else about the topic and we will have to wait until Star Wars: The Force Awakens is released on December 18.

Lucasfilm President and producer of the film, Kathleen Kennedy, recently revealed that The Force Awakens is about the Skaywalker family and what has happened to them since Star Wars: Return of the Jedi . It has been 30 years since those events, and while we have seen Han Solo (Harrison Ford) — who appears to be a central character in Episode VII , we don’t know what he’s been up to since that time.

With the introduction of a new Expanded Universe, Abrams is tasked with creating an engaging plot, yet he has the pressure of pleasing long time Star Wars fans. Both Abrams and Kennedy have insisted everything we thought we knew no longer applies and new books, games, television series, and anthology films will explore the new Star Wars characters in detail.

Theories about the Luke Skywalker mystery abound and without knowing exactly what the circumstances are with Han and Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher), speculation is rampant. One of the most discussed possibilities is that Luke has lived a secluded life, much like his mentor, Obi Wan Kenobi (Alec Guinness) does in A New Hope . The actor was spotted filming The Force Awakens on the remote Irish island Michael Skellig , as previously reported by the Inquisitr , which would support that theory.

Rumor is that Luke Skaywalker went into hiding after he and his friends successfully destroyed the second Death Star and he freed Anakin from the clutches of the Dark Side. However, none of this has been confirmed by the studio or Abrams.

Things got even more interesting when an old video, in which Mark Hamill pitches an “evil Luke Skywalker” to Abrams, resurfaced in the past couple of days. The clip is from a 2005 episode of Kevin Smith’s Dinner for Five , according to an earlier report by the Inquisitr . Note that this happened years before Abrams or Hamill had any idea that Star Wars would once again come to life on the silver screen.

“As an actor that would be more fun to play. I just thought that’s the way it was going from when we finished. I figured that’s what will be the pivotal moment. I’ll have to come back, but it will be I have Han Solo in my crosshairs and I’ll be about to kill him or about to kill the Princess or about to kill somebody that we care about. It’ll be an old cornball movie, like World War II movies.”
