The Egyptian Parliament , which is dominated by Islamic parties, is poised to pass a series of laws seriously undercutting the rights of women. Additionally, they are poised to pass a law allowing a husband to have sex with his wife for up to six hours AFTER she dies.
The Parliament is also set to lower the age of marriage in Egypt to 14 and taking away the absolute right of women to education and employment.
Egypt’s National Council for Women is actively trying to erode support for the bill saying that “marginalising and undermining the status of women would negatively affect the country’s human development’” according to the Daily Mail .
I May 2011 Moroccan cleric Zamzami Abdul Bari said marital bonds exist even after one of the partners dies. The issue of post mortem sex with dead wives came up shortly afterwards. The same cleric said that a woman should have the same conjugal rights with her dead husband according to Alarabiya News.
TV anchor Jaber al-Qarmouty went after Egypt’s parliamentarians for even considering such a disgusting bill. The bill is officially being called the “Farewell Intercourse” draft law.
al Qarmouty said,
“This is very serious. Could the panel that will draft the Egyptian constitution possibly discuss such issues? Did Abdul Samea see by his own eyes the text of the message sent by Talawi to Katatni? This is unbelievable. It is a catastrophe to give the husband such a right! Has the Islamic trend reached that far? Is there really a draft law in this regard? Are there people thinking in this manner?”
