Chelsea’s first team doctor Eva Carneiro is set to lose her place on the Chelsea bench after the teams 2-2 draw against Swansea City on the opening day of the Premier League season.
The Chelsea manager, Jose Mourinho, publicly criticized Eva Carneiro and Jon Fearn after rushing to aid Eden Hazard in the dying minutes of the match temporarily leaving Chelsea with nine players.
“I wasn’t happy with my medical staff because even if you are a medical doctor or secretary on the bench, you have to understand the game,” Mourinho said . “If you go to the pitch to assist a player, then you must be sure that a player has a serious problem. I was sure that Eden didn’t have a serious problem. He had a knock and was very tired. My medical department left me with eight fit outfield players in a counter-attack after a set piece and we were worried we didn’t have enough players left.”
Eva Carneiro will also be stripped from attending games, training sessions, and hotel visitation. Despite that, Carneiro will remain Chelsea’s first-team doctor.
Jose Mourinho fury at Eva Carneiro was heavily criticized by many, and it was pointed out that his team enjoyed an excellent medical record last season.

Jose Mourinho has now covered the football headlines with Carneiro’s demotion and has deflected attention away from Chelsea’s shortcomings. It is not the first time Mourinho has employed this tactic either. Last season, the Portuguese manager frequently criticized match officials after dropping points.
Chelsea will now face Manchester City on Sunday without Eva Carneiro and goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois after their appeal against his red card versus Swansea was rejected.
