Bruce Springsteen celebrates his birthday today. Unbelievably, Springsteen — known universally as “The Boss” — is now 66-years-old, and last night, Bruce celebrated his birthday in style. Springsteen began his birthday celebration a few hours early by watching Jackson Browne at the Count Basie Theatre at Red Bank’s New Jersey. According to Billboard , Bruce then delighted the crowd by joining Browne on stage for two songs.

The Washington Times report that Springsteen came out of the audience to join Browne to play guitar and sing two songs , the Eagles’ “Take It Easy,” a song he co-wrote with the Eagles Glenn Frey, and “Our Lady of the Well.” Springsteen is, of course, a New Jersey native, and he has a long history with Jackson Browne. Springsteen inducted Browne into the Rock and Roll Hall of fame. Springsteen has collaborated with Browne on a number of occasions in the past, including on the 1979 concert album No Nukes: The Muse Concerts For a Non-Nuclear Future , so Springsteen’s appearance marked a renewal of old friendships.

Seeing Bruce on stage with Browne will provide a boost for Springsteen fans, as the Boss does not currently have any of his legendary shows planned. Springsteen is renowned as one of the greatest live performers ever. As reported by NME back in 2012, Bruce broke his own record for the longest show when a performance in Helsinki, Finland, ran for over four hours. It is safe to say that Springsteen fans always get full value for their money.

In recent weeks Springsteen may not have been on tour himself but Wow 24/7 highlight some reasons as to why Bruce is still the boss .

Bruce appeared on the Daily Show to see off Jon Stewart, who could be seen dancing around the studio with his kids as Springsteen played him out. At the World Aids Day concert last year, Bruce stepped in at the last moment to deputize for Bono, who was unable to perform after he was involved in a bicycle accident.

Springsteen is renowned for his generosity to fans and charities. Bruce helps out charities by inviting local causes to have a collection at his shows, and he even recently played a two-hour show at one of his favorite bars on the Jersey Shore. Springsteen has given his time by playing numerous charity shows down the years, as he supports a very long list of causes.

Talking about Springsteen’s appearance at the Basie Theatre last night Jon Vena said, “[I]t’s a pretty special moment. On top of that, it’s Mr. Springsteen’s birthday. We were honored that he chose to kick off the occasion on the Basie stage.”
