When beloved actor Angela Lansbury died last October, she left behind not only a huge cultural legacy but also her home of nearly 40 years. The estate of the Murder, She Wrote star has just listed that house—a conventional-style stucco Los Angeles dwelling—for just under $4.5 million, according to Dirt.

Lansbury got her break in Hollywood when she signed with MGM in 1942. She enjoyed an award-winning career spanning over seven decades, and moved into the Brentwood Heights property with her husband, actor Peter Shaw, in 1985. For the handsome price of $925,000, the property served as her primary home until her death in October 2022, according to Mick Partridge of the Beverly Hills Estates, one of the listing agents.

As per The Wall Street Journal, the four-bedroom house is located in the upscale Brentwood neighborhood and spans around 3,700 square feet, sitting on close to half an acre, Mr. Partridge said. The Spanish-style home has tiled floors and vaulted wood-beamed ceilings. It includes a large living room with clerestory windows and doors that open onto a garden and pool area. In addition to a breakfast nook, there is a more formal dining room with rustic beamed ceilings and a tiled fireplace, he said.

The structure’s curved clay roof tiles are matched by square terracotta tiled floors throughout the interior. Vaulted wood ceilings and exposed beams top the four-bedroom and four-bathroom home, which is pictured with English cottage-style furnishings in the listing. Gates and a high wall shield most of the house from the street, ensuring privacy and serenity.  Abundant windows, skylights and french doors provide a healthy dose of natural light throughout the charming space, per Architectural Digest.

Rustic wooden furniture in the dining space is complemented by a large terracotta-tiled hearth near the more updated kitchen, which offers a small breakfast bar and a fridge hidden behind light wood panels that match the cabinetry. There’s also a skylit formal dining room, which is photographed with a large painted portrait of the late performer. The carpeted primary bedroom boasts another large fireplace, plus a huge ensuite bathroom with balcony access.

Ms. Lansbury’s daughter, Deirdre Shaw, said the property was “the perfect house” for her parents. “It has lots of light, which is what my mom craved,” said Ms. Shaw, a chef. “It’s light, light, and more light."

The property also reflected the actress’s quiet, low-key lifestyle, said her daughter, adding that Ms. Lansbury was a keen gardener and cook who planted an English garden at the rear of the house and grew herbs. Ms. Shaw said that her mother was skilled at making sauces, including béchamel, béarnaise and hollandaise. “I learned the beginnings of being a professional cook from her,” she said. Deciding to sell the property was difficult for the family, but “it’s something we all need to move on,” Ms. Shaw said. “That’s what Mom would want.”
