Cameron Brown has been found guilty of throwing his 4-year-old daughter off of a cliff in California. According to the Los Angeles Times , 53-year-old Brown was convicted on a first-degree murder charge after committing the unthinkable act 15 years ago. It is believed that Brown killed his daughter, Lauren, to avoid paying $1,000 monthly in child support to her mother.
At the time, Brown worked as an airline baggage handler. He was said to be in a “bitter custody battle” with his ex, and the prosecution says that killing Lauren was Brown’s way out. He took his little girl to Rancho Palos Verdes and tossed her off a 120-foot cliff. Brown told police that his daughter was playing near the edge when she tripped, falling to her death.

This case has gone to two previous times. This time, however, a jury was able to agree on a verdict based on the evidence provided to them.
“The jury’s decision marked the end of the third trial in the case. Two juries previously deadlocked over whether Brown intentionally threw his daughter or whether her fall was a tragic accident.”
Cameron Brown sat motionless as the guilty verdict was read. After the hearing, Brown’s attorney said that his client maintains his innocence and that Mr. Brown did not “intentionally” kill his daughter. According to the New York Daily News , Lauren’s mother, Sarah Key-Marer, wept in court , finally getting justice so many years after her daughter’s death.

“All I ever wanted was that he would take responsibility for what happened that day,” said Key-Marer.
She hugged all of the jurors and thanked them for their dedication — and for the decision they ultimately made.
Following Cameron Brown’s guilty verdict comes the sentencing phase of his trial, which is scheduled for June 19. As previously reported by the Inquisitr , Brown faces a mandatory sentence of life without parole. While the death penalty could be an option sought in the case, the Inquisitr states that it’s an unlikely scenario . The death penalty, though an option for murder cases like Brown’s, has not been enforced in the state of California since 2006.
Even still, many people feel as though Brown should be sentenced to death for killing his daughter. Do you?
