The Pope Is Selling His Harley Davidson motorcycle… Yup, you heard that right, Pope Francis has a Harley, and he’s auctioning it off next month for charity. ABC News reported that the 1,585 cc Harley-Davidson Dyna Super Glide was “presented to the pope as a gift from the motorcycle company in June 2013.”
Pope Francis is known for his simplistic ways, such as taking a bus instead of riding in the Popemobile. The Pope was recently named TIME Magazine’s Person of The Year for 2013. He is also known for doing things his own way. The Inquisitr stated that even from the beginning, Pope Francis did things differently.
“From the start, Pope Francis did things his own way, taking the traditional congratulations from the College of Cardinals standing as opposed to sitting on the papal throne. Pope Francis continued his modest ways by refusing to move into the lavish Papal apartments, and instead, taking a more modest guest house as his residence.”
TIME stated that Pope Francis signed the gas tank of the Harley, and they believe that the bike could “catch a pretty price” when it goes up for auction. “Even without Francis’ signature, the bike is worth an estimated $16,400 to $20,500.”
The motorcycle is set to be auctioned off by Bonhams in Paris on February 6. The Proceeds of the auction will then go to the Catholic charity, Caritas Roma, which plans to use the money to restore a soup kitchen and shelter.
“We are incredibly honored to be selling this item on behalf of Caritas Roma. We hope to be able to do both Pope Francis and Harley-Davidson proud by raising a significant amount of money for a very worthy cause,” said Ben Walker, head of the motorcycles division at Bonhams.
TIME continued on to say that Pope Francis’ leather Harley Davidson jacket will also be auctioned off, and the proceeds will also go to Caritas Roma.
