New ‘X-Files’ Movie Depends On 20th Century Fox, Says Chris Carter

If you’re in the market for a new X-Files movie, then you might want to let 20th Century Fox know there’s definitely interest in the project. It’s the only way another installment is going to happen.

Series creator Chris Carter told Empire magazine that he definitely has another story in mind should the studio move forward with another cinematic adventure. However, executives have been eerily quiet about the possibility of a sequel in recent years.

Although fans and X-Files alum are interested in another movie, Carter told the publication that the studio will have to pull the trigger on the project.

“I think all of us are interested in putting the band back together. I have an idea for a third movie in my head. The colonization date has passed and that is something we wouldn’t ignore. For the second movie, we only had the budget for a standalone story, but we want to go back to the mythology,” Carter said.

Should the studio give Carter and company the proverbial greenlight for the next X-Files movie, he told the magazine that he’s definitely interested in getting The World’s End star Simon Pegg involved with the project.

“Gillian worked with Simon Pegg on a movie and told me that he was a big fan. We actually thought about putting him in the second movie, but there was no part for him. I certainly would think about him if we were to go forward in any way,” Carter explained during his interview.

It could take some convincing to get 20th Century Fox to put up the money for another sequel. The 2008 effort The X-Files: I Want to Believe only pulled in approximately $68 million worldwide. This isn’t the sort of figure that gets studios interested in making more sequels.

Are you a fan of The X-Files ? Do you think 20th Century Fox will ever given Chris Carter and company a chance to make another movie?
