Daisy Coleman Rape Confirmed By Second Victim

Daisy Coleman’s rape case has gained national attention. The 14-year-old was reportedly raped by 17-year-old Matthew Barnett in January 2012. The assault was recorded by 17-year-old Jordan Zech. Although both teens were arrested, the charges were eventually dropped.

On January 8, 2012, Coleman and a 13-year-old friend were invited to a party in Maryville, Missouri. The party was hosted by students from Maryville High School.

Upon arrival, the young girls were served alcohol. Daisy said she eventually blacked out. She has no memory of what happened throughout the night.

The following morning, Melinda Coleman found her 14-year-old daughter unconscious on the front porch. With the exception of a t-shirt, the teen was completely nude. The temperature was below freezing.

When Melinda helped Daisy into the house, she realized her daughter was hurt. She immediately took her to St. Francis Hospital for an examination. As reported by KansasCity.com, the doctors noted that the teen suffered from vaginal tearing, which indicated recent sexual intercourse.

Barnett admitted having intercourse with Daisy Coleman. He was arrested and charged with felony sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child. Barnett insisted the sexual contact was consensual.

Zech admitted recording the assault on his iPhone. However, he said he did not believe Daisy was being raped. Zech was charged with felony sexual exploitation of a minor.

Two months later, all charges were dismissed. Nodaway County prosecutor Robert Rice said there was not enough evidence to secure a conviction.

Following the dismissal, Daisy and her family were forced to move away from Maryville. Melinda was fired from her job, and she said her children were constantly harassed.

The Coleman’s Maryville home remained empty pending sale. Before the home was sold, it burned to the ground. Authorities were unable to determine the cause of the fire.

Daisy’s friend, who was 13 at the time, has now come forward in support of her friend. The friend says she was also raped on the evening in question. When she finally got away from the boy, she found Daisy completely “incoherent.”

As reported by CBS News, the 13-year-old watched the boys dump Daisy on her mother’s front porch. The boys encouraged the girl to go inside, insisting that they would keep an eye on her friend until she was fully conscious.

A 15-year-old boy was arrested for raping the 13-year-old. However, like the other cases, the charges were eventually dismissed.

Daisy Coleman’s rape case has recently gained the attention of several Missouri officials. They have committed to investigating why the charges were dismissed.
