Mischa Barton Opens Up About Breakdown

Mischa Barton was a huge star back in 2006 when she was starring on the hit show The O.C. Her fame came at a price, however, and the actress went through a fairly dark period after the Fox show ended.

Barton opened up about her “full-on breakdown” recently in an interview with People Magazine.

Barton said that she had a “work hard play hard” attitude during her younger years and that it almost killed her.

People reports that Barton was arrested for a DUI in 2007. A few years later her parents staged an intervention to try to get her to stop using drugs. Barton eventually ended up at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center psychiatric ward where she threatened to kill herself.

The actress, now 27, said that she was constantly under pressure for being too skinny or too fat.

Barton said: “It was a full-on breakdown… I was under enormous pressure… It was always, ‘She’s too skinny, she must be sick.’ Then it was, ‘She’s too big.’ I was never the right weight.”

Barton is now focusing on staying health and getting her career back on track. The actress will soon be seen in the new thriller “I Will Follow You Into The Dark” and recently opened up her own boutique.

Barton said: “I’ve learned a lot… I’m stronger now.”
