‘Reign’ Masturbation Scene Shortened By The CW

The controversial Reign masturbation scene has reportedly been shortened by the folks at the CW. When the pilot airs on the network this week, viewers will receive a much tamer version of the sequence that shocked critics this summer.

The 16th-century drama is apparently taking a few cues from its competition on cable. The story, which unfolds inside a sprawling castle, follows Mary Queen of Scots’ rise to power.

According to the network, the series “details the secret history of survival at French Court amidst fierce foes, dark forces, and a world of sexual intrigue.” As such, the show probably isn’t going to shy too far away from the material that will drive people to check it out.

Entertainment Weekly reports that the controversial Reign masturbation scene takes place after the Queen and her ladies-in-waiting attend a wedding. Once the event wraps up, the group decides to secretly spy on the couple’s “bedding ceremony.” If you watch Game of Thrones, then you know what we’re talking about.

The website explains:

“The aroused handmaidens scatter around the castle to find relief among various paramours. One of them, Kenna (Caitlin Stasey), assures she’s alone in a secluded stairwell, hikes up her gown, reaches under and starts … yep. Her self-pleasure is unexpectedly interrupted by none other than the King of France (Alan van Sprang), who smugly offers his assistance and takes over.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Reign masturbation scene is still in the pilot episode. However, the version viewers at home get to see is much shorter than the one screened at the critics press tour this summer.

The outlet states that other scenes were also shortened, though nothing about the edits should directly affect the story itself. The series premieres on the CW this Thursday (October 17). Check out a preview of the new show below.

Are you deeply disappointed that the Reign masturbation scene is getting shortened for the network premiere later this week?
