Trucker Protest 2013: National Guard Called In By Obama To Stop Truckers?

The 2013 trucker protest rumor says the national guard was being readied by President Obama in order to stop the Truckers Ride For The Constitution event protesting the government shutdown.

As previously reported by The Inquisitr, at one point most of the mass media was outright calling the Truckers Ride For The Constitution a hoax. There was even an allegation that fake photos of the truckers protest were being spread via social media.

Rumors of the whole thing being a hoax were started by one man named Earl Conlon claimed that Truckers Ride For The Constitution intended to arrest members of Congress but then shortly later recanted, saying his version of a trucker protest was canceled. Earl Conlon was not a trucker himself and was apparently known in the past for agitating political events.

The rumors about fake photos were true to a certain extent. Some people were using Facebook and Twitter to spread photos related to trucker charity events from 2012 and claim they were related to the trucker protest in 2013. But the official Truckers Ride For The Constitution organization did not do this.

A day before the trucker protest began, an article in Redflagnews.com claimed that a Department of Transportation source said President Barack Obama would be calling in troops to block the truckers protest:

“The National Guard resources to be used to thwart the truckers will include rifle toting National Guardsmen called up from units that will be coming in from Maryland, Pennsylvania and Virginia. They will use Guardsmen on foot and using trucks, jeeps and armored vehicles, which will be stationed at all entrance ramps to the Beltway to block incoming traffic starting early Friday morning.”

This report was not true and the truckers protest didn’t even receive as much as a traffic ticket by Virginia highway police.

The truckers protest had hoped to bring in between 3,000 and 10,000 semi-trucks into the nation’s capital to protest the government shutdown. It is rumors like these that are being blamed for the Truckers Ride For The Constitution not making an effective showing.
