Miley Cyrus’ Backup Dancer Felt Degraded By VMAs Performance

The fallout caused by singer Miley Cyrus and her controversial MTV Video Music Awards performance continues to grow.

Although it’s been weeks since the former Hannah Montana star twerked her way into history, people can’t seem to stop talking about it. The latest person to weigh in on the matter is Hollis Jane, a little person who dressed up as one of Cyrus’ dancing bears.

Hollis, who runs the blog A Bunch of Dumb Show, originally commented on Facebook about her experience as Miley Cyrus’ backup dancer during the infamous VMAs performance. According to Hollis, the experience left her feeling degraded.

The dancer wrote:

“I was a bear in Miley Cyrus’ VMA performance and it was my first time doing anything like that… anything where I was being used because of my height, not because of my talent. And I will be the first one to tell you that standing on that stage, in that costume was one of the most degrading things I felt like I could ever do. I realize not everyone shares my opinion and I might just be young and naive, but I feel like the acceptance of this kind of treatment has got to stop.”

Hollis recently took part in a Reddit AMA, a chat which revealed more details about her stint as a backup dancer for Miley Cyrus. She said the singer and her handlers choreographed the entire performance, including the singer’s bump-and-grind session with Robin Thicke.

“Most of it was pretty planned. They both knew in rehearsals exactly what they were going to be doing. Robin seemed very on-board and even suggested some of the moves. That being said, his wife and son were there the entire time,” she explained.

Hollis added, “When we were rehearsing and she wasn’t there, the choreographer would step in for her and she goes “and she’s gonna stick her tongue out like this” and did it.”

Miley Cyrus and her representatives have yet to comment on Hollis Jane’s comments. What do you think about the backup dancer’s remarks about the VMAs performance?
