David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson took part in a Reddit AMA ahead of their appearance at the X-Files 20th Anniversary Panel in New York City over the weekend. According to the actors, another movie is currently in the works.
The stars of the 90s TV show revealed that series creator Chris Carter is working a script for the next X-Files movie. The only thing standing in their way at the moment is 20th Century Fox. Since the last movie wasn’t exactly a box office sensation, the studio is understandably in no rush to continue the characters’ cinematic adventures.
However, David Duchovny revealed during the recent Reddit AMA that Carter was moving ahead with the project. According to the actor, both he and Anderson are on-board should the movie get the greenlight.
The Californication star explained:
“I think Chris Carter is working on a script. Chris is shooting a pilot right now, so he might not be working on a script, but he claims to be working on a script, and if he does do that and Fox wants to make it … Gillian will do it, I will do it, so start your writing campaign now. Seriously. We’d all love to do it. The ball is in Fox’s hands. And not Fox Mulder, Fox the studio.”
David Duchovny isn’t the only person teasing another X-Files movie. Chris Carter told Empire magazine earlier this year that he was definitely interested in getting another movie on the big screen in the near future.
“I think all of us are interested in putting the band back together. I have an idea for a third movie in my head. The colonization date has passed and that is something we wouldn’t ignore. For the second movie, we only had the budget for a standalone story, but we want to go back to the mythology,” he said.
Another person who is anxious about the project is The World’s End star Simon Pegg. After Carter hinted about possibly adding the actor to the mix in the upcoming sequel, Pegg told The Sun that he wouldn’t pass up an opportunity to get involved.
“I was a big fan of The X-Files and I’ve become friends with Gillian Anderson since. I’ve always loved that show so it’s definitely something I’d consider. It’s a great story and it would be nice to see it continue,” he explained to the publication.
