‘Avatar’ Theme Park Concept Art Revealed By Disney

Are you ready to take a trip back to Pandora? Disney recently revealed some concept art for the upcoming Avatar theme park in Florida.

Although the attraction is still several years from opening its doors to the public, the boys and girls at Disney decided to give fans of James Cameron’s sci-fi hit an early look at the park’s design. You can check out some images from the project in the gallery below.

According to the folks at The Wrap, the Avatar theme park will reside inside Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando. Once everything is finally up and running, people can casually stroll through a lush recreation of the alien planet Pandora.

“Our combined team has taken huge steps forward in ‘imagineering’ Pandora as a real place for our guests to see, hear and touch,” Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman Tom Staggs recently explained on the company’s official blog.

He continued, “In the world of ‘Avatar’ guests will encounter awe-inspiring floating mountains and wander through a nighttime jungle of bioluminescent plants that are alive with light and sound. Guests will also discover what it feels like to soar into the sky riding a Banshee.”

In order to make the Avatar theme park as faithful to the film as humanly possible, Disney is reportedly teaming up with director James Cameron. Not only will he assist with the attraction’s design, he is also busy bringing the next installments of the series to life.

“When we announced that we’d be working with James Cameron and Lightstorm Entertainment to bring this world to life in our parks, we felt certain that this partnership and combination of talent and imagination would produce an experience unlike any other ever created,” Staggs wrote in a recent blog post.

The proposed Avatar theme park is presently scheduled to open in 2017. The first sequel to Cameron’s hit sci-fi flick should hit theaters in December of 2016.
