Charlie Hunnam Admits He’s Not What ’50 Shades Of Grey’ Fans Expected

Sons of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam wants fans of the popular El James book 50 Shades of Grey to know he understands their shock over his casting decision.

Speaking to Us Magazine the actor says he is taking the project very seriously and hopes to win over fans who can’t picture him as Christian Grey.

Hunnam admits that reading is a very personal experience and that bringing a character to life requires a lot of dedication and understanding of the character. Hunnam knows that fans claim “ownership” over a character as popular as Christian Grey.

According to Charlie “I’m taking it very seriously and intend to explore the nature of who this character is, what motivates him—and also dress up nice and look good in those suits.”

Hunnan will star in the film opposite Dakota Johnson.

Sons of Anarchy actress Maggie Siff, who plays Jax’s wife Tara says of Charlie Hunnan role:

“When he told me that it was happening or that he was considering it I just howled. I mean I think we all did. We’re all like, what? And then I talked to him seriously about it. I think he’s very brave to do it. He doesn’t do anything unless he feels it deep down. He’s not going to do something because all of his agents are telling him to do something. That’s what makes me think it stands a chance of being really, really great. If he has that conviction going in, then you know it’ll be great.”

Charlie Hunnam was chosen for the role after months of speculation which left fans with dozens of potential names on the list of potential Christian Grey actors.

Do you think the Sons of Anarchy star will bring the popular books main character to life in a positive and fulfilling way?
