Marilyn Monroe Plastic Surgery Notes And X-Rays Up For Auction

Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe may have gone under the knife for plastic surgery and notes about that surgery are going up for auction. Also being sold are a set of Monroe’s X-Rays.

According to Julien’s Auctions in Beverly Hills, California, a set of six X-rays and a file of doctor’s notes that offer a partial medial history for Marilyn will be auctioned off.

the X-Rays and notes are expected to capture between $15,000 and $30,000 during a November 9-10 event.

The cosmetic surgery notes were written by Hollywood plastic surgeon Michael Gurdin. While the notes do not state that Marilyn Monroe went under the knife, they do strongly hint at cosmetic surgery.

The auctions seller, who has chosen to remain anonymous, says they received the notes and X-Rays from Gurdin as a gift.

Julien Auctions executive director Martin Nolan says of the rare find:

“Nobody really thought about Marilyn Monroe having plastic surgery. It was always speculation – did she or didn’t she?. They thought she was such a natural beauty, they didn’t want to believe.”

The plastic surgery notes from Gurdin hint at a 1950 cartilage implant in Monroe’s chin which he notes slowly began to dissolve.

After allegedly having plastic surgery on her chin Monroe would go on to star in How to Marry a Millionaire, The Seven Year Itch, and Some Like It Hot.

Speculation is high because plastic surgery typically wasn’t used for simple cosmetic purposes in the 1940s and 1950s. If Marilyn Monroe actually went under the knife it would be one of the earliest uses of plastic surgery for Hollywood image-based purposes.

Monroe’s X-rays are dated June 7, 1962 and were the result of a late night fall. The X-Rays were taken just two months before the 36-year-old movie icon would pass away from an overdose of barbiturates.

The six x-rays include captures of Monroe’s frontal facial bones, a composite right and left X-ray of the sides of her nasal bones and dental X-rays of the roof of her mouth.

These are not the first X-rays of Marilyn to go on sale, a 1954 set sold for $45,000 in 2010. The 1954 set featured three chest X-rays.
