Infant Motrin Recalled By Johnson & Johnson
Infant Motrin is being recalled by Johnson & Johnson. A total of 200,000 bottles of medication are included in the recall. The bottles may contain traces of PTFE, which is a type of plastic.
The plastic is used as a component in Teflon non-stick coating. The particles were discovered in a lot that was not shipped to stores. However, three other lots are being recalled as a precaution.
The particles were traced to a third-party, which manufactures ibuprofen. As reported by Motrin.com, the contamination was reported and steps are being taken to prevent future incidents.
The recall includes Concentrated MOTRIN® Infants’ Drops Original Berry Flavor 1/2 fl oz bottles. Lot numbers include DCB3T01, DDB4R01, and DDB4S01. The product UPC code is 300450524157 and the case UPC code is 30300450524158.
The product was shipped to wholesale and retail stores throughout the United States. Consumers are asked to dispose of any medication included in the recall.
Officials with McNEIL-PPC said they have not received any reports of illness or injury. The recall is simply a precaution.
Consumers requesting a refund are encouraged to contact customer care at 1-877-414-7709. Operators are also available to answer questions about the recall.
McNEIL officials suggest MOTRIN® Drops Dye-Free Berry Flavor 1 fl oz as an alternate product.
The active ingredient in the Motrin products is ibuprofen, which is routinely used to reduce pain and fever.
As reported by Fox News, the recall went into effect one month ago. However, it still stands. McNEIL issued a reminder to consumers on Friday.
The affected lots were manufactured in Beerse, Belgium. The company’s Fort Washington, Pennsylvania plant remains closed following previous incident.
In 2010, McNEIL announced the recall of a massive amount of children’s medication. The recall included more than 136 million containers of Tylenol, Motrin, and Zyrtec, products.
The recall was one of the largest of its kind. The manufacturing plant never reopened.
The infant Motrin recall is the latest of 40 products recalled by Johnson & Johnson this year.
