Reese Witherspoon Lands Disney Princess Role

Reese Witherspoon has finally snagged up her princess role. In a move that’s probably engineered to fix her image up a bit, Witherspoon has been cast in Disney’s fairy tale comedy Happily Ever After.

The Hollywood Reporter has released the news that Happily Ever After is written by screenwriter Nahnatchka Khan, who penned and created the fantastic ill-fated comedy series Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23.

So far word is out that Witherspoon is definitely attached for a starring role in the project, so it’s safe to assume that Disney is pretty excited about this project. For Disney it’s a return to form, and a bit of a departure from what they have been putting out lately. As it stands, Disney’s staple has always been their creations of stories revolving around princesses, and we can’t think of a better actress that can fit the princess stereotype like Witherspoon can.

Reese Witherspoon’s film will follow a princess and her prince about ten years after a Disney film usually rolls the ending credits. Instead of getting towards the happily ever after, the couple realize that not everything is coming up roses, and to have a healthy relationship it takes time and a bit of effort. This seems like a mature subject for children, so we’re not sure how Disney plans to thematically aim this kind of material at that demo, but we have to commend them for trying something different and educational.

In addition to starring in the film, Reese Witherspoon also acts as an executive producer through her own company called Pacific Standard imprint.

Other than Reese’s princess role, the Oscar winner will be seen in Devil’s Knot alongside Dane DeHaan, The Good Life, which sees Witherspoon as an American who takes in a Sudanese refugee, and in Paul Thomas Anderson’s Inherent Vice, which will see the actress a part of a large ensemble piece.
