Will Friedle Won’t Star In ‘Boy Meets World’ Spin Off

Will Friedle has confirmed that he won’t be returning as Eric Matthews in the upcoming Boy Meets World spin off, Girl Meets World.

Friedle played the affable older brother of the show’s protagonist, Cory Matthews, which ran for seven years, from 1993 until 2000, and helped to mould the mind of almost every teenager who watched it.

When asked if he would be joining the reunion, which starts in 2014, Friedle told Mashable, “I will only be involved in the show as a fan.”

He then continued, “I know rumours got around that I would be joining, but I have no plans to be on right now. Who knows what will happen, if there is a reunion show, I would go and be with everyone, but Ben [Savage] and Danielle [Fishel] will be great introducing it to a new audience.”

Girl Meets World’s announcement was met with a positive response earlier this year, and Friedle admitted that he is excited to see what has happened to Cory and Topanga, whose characters will be married with kids in the spinoff.

However, it’s still now known whether or not Boy Meets World favorites Mr. Feeny, or Cory’s friend, Shawn, will join the pair. Friedle wants to see the beloved Mr Feeny, who was played by William Daniels, back on TV though.

He commented, “I would love to see what Mr Feeny and Eric are up to right now, though. Eric could be either living on the streets or a senator. As an actor, I hope they do some Boy Meets World references, but at the same time, I want them to give the new cast a chance to find their characters.”

Maybe this is all a ruse though. Because Michael Jacobs, who created both Boy Meets World and Girl Meets World, teased back in March when he was asked whether old cast members would return, “I think there’s more than a chance. I think there’s a strong chance.”
