Apple iPad 2 Production For Verizon And AT&T Begins [Rumor]
In a Tuesday night leak it has been revealed that the Apple iPad 2 has went into production. According to the tipster, speaking with the Wall Street Journal it will have a “faster processor…faster graphics and more RAM” The iPad 2 is also expected to bring with it dual cameras and a 1024 x 768 display.
Along with the production will be AT&T and Verizon 3G versions, possibly with HSPA and EVDO versions being produced separately from one another according to several analysts. However a dual-mode Gobi chip, such as the one found on the Verizon iPhone could be used since it supports both GSM and CDMA data network types.
Other than a few new specs, the device is also expected to be lighter and thinner.
Further speculation points to a dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 chipset, possibly with 1.2GHz, while a jump to 512MB RAM is also possible since that amount of memory is already available for the iPhone 4.
While we still have no idea when the new units will begin shipping to customers a March or April release date seems most likely given that device production has just started.
