RadioShack Employee Detects Sarcasm, K.O.’s Customer

The excessively sarcastic among us have to know that they’re more obnoxious than clever, but even still, it takes a rare combination of raw nerves and well-timed snark to warrant a wild haymaker to the face.

But the chemistry was all there last week at a RadioShack in Parsippany, N.J.

Police there said that they responded to some kind of disturbance call, and were met by a man holding a bloody paper towel to his face. He said that he was merely a customer at the store and that he was socked in the eye by a salesperson who quickly ran off to the back of the store.

So, to the back of the store police went, where they found the disgruntled RadioShack employee. They found 20-year-old Andre Santiago of Denville, and asked what had gotten into him.

“He was being sarcastic,” Santiago replied.

Santiago was arrested on a charge of assault, booked at Parsippany Police Headquarters, and then later released. The customer who was punched turned down medical assistance. It is unknown whether or not he’ll choose to press charges against Santiago, but we’re guessing he’ll be getting his electronics from Best Buy from now on.

Sarcasm-induced pugilism aside, the best part of this story is the puns.

“That’s nothing,” wrote one Gawker reader. “You should see what they charge for battery. Here all week, folks. Tip your bloggers.”

And another:

“Oh gawds, is this story finally making the circuit? I can’t believe that it wasnt posted already, apparently the customer was short, and the employee discharged his anger via a punch to the face. Maybe the employee was down to the wire.. had to leave to get home? Who knows, but at least he ohm’ed up to the assault.”

Clever, but a little too enthusiastic.

Will you ever shop at RadioShack again?
