Gina Gershon’s ‘House Of Versace’ Gets No Love From The Fashion Company

Gina Gershon shines as fashion icon Donatella Versace in the latest trailer for director Sara Sugarman’s biopic House of Versace. The flick debuts in the US on October 5.

The latest promotional clip from Lifetime’s upcoming drama gives fan a chance to see the actress in action. Not only are folks treated to Versace’s trademark pout, they also get to hear Gershon tackle her Italian accent. Your opinion of her performance will likely vary.

One group that doesn’t seem overly thrilled about the upcoming biopic is the real House of Versace. Although the Donatella was yet to weigh in on Gina Gershon’s performance, the company released a statement on the movie as a whole. In short: They’re definitely not happy about it.

“Versace has neither authorized nor had any involvement whatsoever in the forthcoming TV movie about Mrs. Versace. Since Versace did not authorize the book on which it is based, the movie should only be seen as a work of fiction,” a representative for Versace recently told WWD.

Although the film doesn’t arrive in the US until this weekend, the folks at Variety got a chance to see the Gina Gershon flick before everyone else. Unfortunately, the website doesn’t seem too thrilled about the opportunity.

Writer Laura Fries wrote in her review:

“[Lifetime’s] latest original, a behind the chiffon look at the Versace fashion dynasty titled “House of Versace,” is a gilded guilt fest certain to leave viewers with 24-karat regret. Even top-notch stars appearing as impeccable real-life knock-offs can’t help the flimsy script, which wears as badly as a cheap polyester blend. It’s the kind of melodramatic TV movie that has one pining for more wire hangers.”

The latest trailer for the biopic lies below.
