‘Scream 5’ Is The Last Film In The Series, Says Harvey Weinstein
Harvey Weinstein still wants to make Scream 5 a reality.
Since director Wes Craven’s Scream 4 wasn’t exactly a box office titan, fans assumed that the film series was over and out. However, Weinstein recently revealed that he intends to move forward with another installment of the long-running horror series.
Although it’s unclear when Scream 5 will hit the big screen, Harvey Weinstein believes the project will still happen. According to IndieWire, he revealed plans for the franchise during an appearance at the Zurich International Film Festival.
“Everyone lived in ‘Scream 4.’ I’m begging him to do the movie and just end it. We’ve milked that cow,” Weinstein explained at the recent event.
Wes Craven revealed a few years ago that Bob and Harvey Weinstein were definitely interested in putting together another Scream film. While information about the sequel is practically non-existent, it would seem that there’s still life in the project after all.
Craven told MovieWeb back in 2011:
“Yes. The odds are that there will be [a Scream 5]. It is something that Bob Weinstein wants to do. He tends to do what he wants to do. So I am inclined to think that there will be [another sequel]. Whether I will be a part of it or not? I don’t know. My contract gives me the first look. If they show me something that is really wonderful? Of course I will be a part of it.”
Scream 4 hit theaters in 2011 after a lengthy hiatus. The $40 million horror flick earned a tidy $97 million from around the world. These numbers may not demand a sequel, but Weinstein seems determined to wrap up the Scream story with a much higher body count.
The movies might be coming to an end, but Weinstein assured everyone at the Zurich International Film Festival that this would have absolutely no bearing on the Scream TV series. MTV’s spin-off will reportedly incorporate supernatural elements into the story.
