Mo’Nique May Snatch Up Her Own Daytime Talk Show

These days it seems like there’s a new daytime talk show host announced every two weeks. This week it’s being reported that Mo’Nique is up next for her bat at a hosting gig.

We haven’t heard much from Mo’Nique since her Academy Award win for the 2009 Lee Daniels film Precious. Usually when a performance is so prominent in an award season, an actress doesn’t have that hard of a time scoring her next gig, but for Mo’Nique it has taken the personality turned actress a bit of time.

Back in July there were rumors that BET had offered a talk show to Mo’Nique, but those reports were never confirmed or denied. Now it looks like Mo’Nique will be getting her own talk show, but it won’t be with BET. Instead, the actress is reportedly working on her own show with ABC. Mo’Nique’s show could launch in September 2014 if all goes well.

So far we don’t know what format Mo’Nique’s show will be in, but if it goes smoothly she will be joining a bevy of faces that put themselves in the race to be the next Oprah Winfrey. Naomi Campbell is also rumored to be one of those women, as she’s currently in talks for her own daytime show as well.

In addition to Mo’Nique’s daytime talks, she’s still in development for a Hattie McDaniel biopic, which can’t seem to get itself off the ground. The project was announced three years ago, and at the time Lee Daniels was poised to direct it. Now The Butler director is a bit busy with other directing endeavors after a successful season at the box office.

Mo’Nique certainly has her work cut out for her, because it seems like Queen Latifah is here to stay in daytime after her new talk show scored a strong debut with a 1.7 rating.

Do you think Mo’Nique is the next Oprah?
