Nathan Sykes Crushed On Selena Gomez But Steered Clear For Fairly Compelling Reasons
The Wanted’s Nathan Sykes may have recently declared his coupledom with Ariana Grande, but he’s not done getting things off his chest.
The 20-year-old recently got frank with We Love Pop magazine [via MTV UK] and admitted he — presumably — used to have a giant crush on a certain Selena Gomez.
Sykes started off talking about his fellow bandmate, Max George. “Now this is why I’m so jealous of Max!”
Elaborating, he quipped, “He follows someone on Twitter, then he is in the tabloids saying he is in a relationship. I started following the Selena Gomez and nothing. Where is my relationship?!”
Before die-hard Jelena’s start melting down Nathan wax dolls, we hasten to add the Brit didn’t get to act on his feelings for the “Come and Get It” starlet.
While his reasons may be many, to the magazine he reeled off two. “To be honest, I always liked Selena, but I really did not want to go that side because Justin [Bieber] would kill me!” he explains.
“I would probably receive a call from [mutual manager] Scooter [Braun] telling me to stay away!” Sykes added.
Justin and Selena initially split last November and have been on something of a break-up-make-up cycle until — reportedly — fairly recently. Their stormy two-year relationship is now thought to be completely done.
Clearly comfortable enough in his relationship with Ariana to be open about previous smitten-ness with Selena, Nathan went on to reveal how he felt when he saw the Getaway actress in the flesh.
The singer told the mag that when he clapped eyes on Gomez at a Justin Timberlake gig his “jaw dropped.”
“I must have looked like a complete idiot. My friends were like, ‘Just say hi,’ but I could not even talk to her!” he recalled. “But that’s how I am, I’m very, very nervous around girls that I really like. I need to improve my game.”
Clearly, Sykes’ “game” has improved as he is now dating another petite, beautiful brunette who just happens to possess a voice that could possibly shatter windows.
Last month, Ariana and Nathan finally confirmed their loved-up status on Twitter after rumors they had got together while making their tender duet “Almost is Never Enough.”
The pair were also recently snapped on a date at Disneyland.
Nathan gushed first, “So, I guess it’s obvious now … thanks to everyone who is being so lovely. I’m so happy ) #butweareterrified #pleasedontkillme #orariana.”
At the time, Grande added, “We hesitated saying anything as people can be a bit insensitive but thank u? we value all of your happiness, thank you for valuing ours ).”
