‘Grand Theft Auto 5’ Actor Defends Controversial Torture Sequence

One particularly uncomfortable torture sequence in Grand Theft Auto 5 left many gamers feeling like they needed a shower. However, actor Steven Ogg doesn’t see a problem with it.

If you haven’t complete the single-player campaign in Rockstar’s open-world crime saga, then you might want to tread carefully. There are a few spoilers contained in this article.

At one point during the Grand Theft Auto 5 storyline, players take the role of the psychopathic Trevor during a gruesome torture scene. In addition to pulling out teeth with pliers, gamers are instructed to “water board” the victim with a flammable liquid.

Steven Ogg, the man who helped bring Trevor to life, doesn’t necessarily have a problem with this aspect of the GTA 5 experience. During a recent interview with the Mirror, Ogg defended the character’s outrageous behavior in the popular video game.

“People play these games to escape, to be free of the repression they may or may not feel in their ordinary lives. Trevor brings it all back for gamers — you get to act out on every impulse and desire,” the voice actor explained to the publication.

Although Ogg portrayed the violently unstable criminal in Grand Theft Auto 5, the actor admitted that he actually hasn’t played the game since its release.

“I have not played it, but I have put it into a console and watched the beginning. I tend to bump into the same wall over and over and over again when I attempt to control any character in a game. I’d love to watch it, though!” Ogg said.

If you don’t have a copy of GTA 5 in your household, then you can see what all of the fuss is about by taking a look at the video embedded below. The footage is particularly unsettling, so viewer discretion is strongly advised.
