‘The Desolation of Smaug’ Trailer: Benedict Cumberbatch Fans React [Video]

The second trailer for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug recently hit the internet. Not surprisingly, Benedict Cumberbatch fans are having a field day with the clip.

For those who haven’t kept up with director Peter Jackson’s adaptation of author J.R.R. Tolkien’s novel, the Star Trek Into Darkness star provides the voice of the villainous dragon in the flick. The latest trailer gives fan a look at the actor’s motion-captured performance.

During his chat with Collider a while ago, Benedict Cumberbatch explained his involvement with The Desolation of Smaug. According to the acclaimed actor, he did much more than simply provide the voice of the iconic literary dragon.

“I’m playing Smaug, I mean I’m physicalizing him as a dragon I’m not just doing the voiceover, so it’ll be a physical role which I’m no stranger to. I did Frankenstein at the beginning of the year with Danny Boyle at the National Theater and playing the creature in that was a very full on and sort of corporeal experience,” he told the website.

The actor continued, “I’ve already started working out and doing various movement exercises to get myself limber for that all-important jump suit with balls on it, otherwise known as motion-capture. But I can’t wait, I’m really excited.”

Benedict Cumberbatch might be incredibly excited about The Desolation of Smaug, but what do his fans think about his role in Peter Jackson’s fantasy? Check out some Twitter reactions to the recently-released trailer below.
