Sanjay Dutt Leaves Prison To Visit Family, Begs For Privacy

Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt was recently given a brief release from prison to visit his family. The actor begged the press to give him some privacy during his stay.

The Mission Kashmir star was recently sentenced to Yerawada Central Jail in Pune to serve his sentence in connection to the 1993 bombing incident in Mumbai. According to the Deccan Chronicle, the actor has 14 days to visit with his friends and family.

Since Sanjay Dutt is a celebrity in India, several outlets recently descended on the actor’s home. In a recent statement to the press, Dutt asked that the media give him plenty of privacy so he can visit with his relatives in peace.

“With folded hands, I request the press to allow me spend the little time I have, to spend with my family. I respect the law and will return to jail once the leave gets over. Thank you for your support,” he recently told reporters in India.

The Times of India reports that Sanjay Dutt was given a furlough due to his behavior behind bars. Since the actor has been a model prisoner since his sentence began, officials gave him permission to visit his family outside of the prison walls.

“Dutt was released… after the Mumbai police gave a positive report in his favour. He will have to maintain good behaviour,” deputy inspector general Rajendra Dhamne. He added that prisoners are often given one furlough every year.

Dutt is presently serving 42 months in prison for possession of illegal firearms. According to reports, some of these weapons were later used in the 1993 bombing in Mumbai. Although he was originally sentenced to six years behind bars, this was later reduced to five.

The actor has appeared in several major Bollywood movies over the years. His big-screen credits include Munnabhai M.B.B.S., Vaastav: The Reality, and director Mani Shankar’s crime drama Knock Out.
