Jon Stewart On GOP Intransigence: ‘Not A Game Of Chicken’

Comedy Central’s Jon Stewart lashed out not only at Republicans (57 “Earth minutes” ahead of a shutdown) for the continual attempts within the party to sanction and impede Obamacare — but at the media, for reporting the debacle as a bipartisan issue.

Last night, Stewart did a segment titled “Jon Stewart’s Rockin’ Shutdown Eve,” in which he initially joked the segment was a countdown to the big federal shutdown.

But he soon launched into some pointed critique of the Republican party, most notably the members who cite an embrace of the Constitution as an objection to a law passed by Congress and approved by the Supreme Court.

Stewart addressed the behavior of Republicans in regards to Obamacare, joking the legislation is “The End of America as We Know It for Reasons No One is Able to Clearly Explain.”

The host of The Daily Show ripped the legislators who claim to have a Constitution in their “back pocket” while clearly flouting laws, and said of one anti-Obamacare ranter:

“You’re just throwing words togethe… It’s a f***ing law!”

Stewart also compared the GOP’s actions to football, quipping:

“Did you see the Giants game on Sunday? They lost 31-7. Do you know what the Giants didn’t say after that game? ‘If you don’t give us 25 more points by midnight on Monday, we will shut down the f***ing NFL.'”

The host said that he is not opposed to giving the opposite of credit where the opposite of credit is due for either party — but he added:

“I offer a pox on both their houses when appropriate. But this is not a game of chicken. This is when someone is driving to work and there’s a car coming directly at them in their lane. That’s not a game of chicken — that’s an a**hole causing a head-on collision.”
