Anarae Schunk: Body May Belong To Missing Student

Anarae Schunk vanished on September 22. The 20-year-old University of Minnesota student was never seen again. Authorities in Lonsdale confirm they recovered a body from a rural ditch on Monday.

Authorities have asked Schunk’s family to provide dental records. The records can be used to either confirm or rule out the victim’s identity. The family is hoping for the best. However, police believe the girl was killed.

As reported by CBS News, officials gathered several pieces of evidence that suggest Schunk was murdered. Family members were informed that police found the student’s jacket covered in blood. They also recovered a knife believed to be connected with the case.

Volunteers from the community have searched numerous locations in Rosemount and Lilydale. As reported by SouthernMinn, the body was eventually located by a county employee clearing weeds from a ditch.

Anarae Schunk was last seen leaving a Burnsville bar. She reportedly left the bar with her ex-boyfriend Shavelle (Anthony) Chavez-Nelson and his current girlfriend Ashley Conrade.

At some point during the evening, Chavez-Nelson was involved in a shooting outside the bar. Authorities believe he shot and killed Palagor Obang Jobi before leaving with Schunk and Conrade.

Police say Schunk was not involved in Jobi’s death.

Chavez-Nelson and Conrade were both arrested in connection with Jobi’s death. Chavez-Nelso is being held on $2 million bond.

Schunk’s blood soaked jacket was found inside the home of Chavez-Nelson’s ex-wife. The jacket had close to 20 puncture marks, indicating Schunk was repeatedly stabbed. A knife was found hidden on the building’s roof.

Chavez-Nelson refuses to discuss Schunk’s whereabouts. Family members say the college student recently contacted her ex-boyfriend, as he owed her a “large sum of money.”

As reported by Huffington Post, Chavez-Nelson has a long criminal history, which includes selling drugs, aggravated robbery, and weapons charges.

Anarae Schunk is still considered a missing person, as the body has not been identified. However, authorities seem certain that she was killed.
