Carlos Gomez And Reed Johnson Suspended 1 Game For Braves, Brewers Brawl

Reed Johnson and Carlos Gomez have both been suspended for their involvement in the bench clearing brawl between the Atlanta Braves and the Milwaukee Brewers last night.

The MLB announced the suspensions on Twitter.

The league writes: “#Brewers OF Carlos Gomez, #Braves OF Reed Johnson each suspended 1 game and fined for their actions during last night’s game.”

The bench clearing brawl started shortly after Gomez hit a home run.

The Braves didn’t appreciate the way Gomez took his time to watch the ball sail over the fence and when Gomez rounded the bases they let him know about hit. Gomez was taunted as he made his way around the infield. Things turned physical, however, when catcher Brian McCann blocked home plate.

Several players were ejected from the game but only Gomez and Johnson have been suspended so far.

Gomez said that the fight last night has been brewing since he was hit by a pitch last June.

Gomez said: “I did a little bit more [than I should have], and I apologize for this… But if you see the replay [from June], they hit me for no reason, and I tried to get it back today. It’s the only opportunity that I have, and that’s what I did… I feel bad for all that happened today, because they’re in a situation, they’re going to the playoffs, and I don’t want anybody to get injured from my team or from their team.”

MLB.com reports that Brewers third baseman Aramis Ramirez did get injured in the scuffle.
