Shocktoberfest Testing A ‘Naked Haunted House’ This Year

You know what Halloween is always missing? Naked haunted houses.

Not haunted houses where zombified and vampiric performers are nude and disturbingly sexualized. In this ideal haunted house you make your way through a horrifying and claustrophobic experience in nothing but your birthday suit. Who wouldn’t want that, right?

That’s the idea behind a new tour at Pennsylvania’s “Shocktoberfest” this year. The “Naked and Scared” lets visitors “show off every goosebump” according to owner Patrick Konopelski.

“It’s about vulnerability — people putting their defenses down and not being protected by anything. It allows us to scare them in ways they have never been scared before,” he told The Huffington Post.

It’s actually kind of genius – removing every last bit of security you have. And with Shocktoberfest’s commitment to being the “scariest haunted house attraction ever built,” simple things like stripping you naked go a long way toward achieving that nightmarish goal.

“Our haunted house gives the customer an adrenaline rush –- something they perhaps first experienced when they were little kids going through their first haunted house. That rush becomes like a heroin addiction and people will chase that high again and again. It’s our job to give it to them.”

“Naked and Scared” became reality after Konopelski talked it over with his lawyer (yes, it’s legal). Consenting adults can sign up for the tour during slower business hours so that naked people aren’t running amok during business hours. Additionally, there’s a “prude” option which allows adults to keep their underwear.

The tour will be offered to small groups and couples, but this isn’t a sexualized experience at all.

“It has nothing to do with sex. Inappropriate behavior is not allowed. We have controls in place to ensure that will not be the case,” he said. “In our industry we create the illusion of a very chaotic environment, when in fact, it’s a very safe and secure environment.”

“Naked and Scared” is going through its test run this year. You can check it out or sign up for tickets here.
