Amy Poehler: I Could Be Cut From ‘Anchorman 2’

Amy Poehler shot scenes for Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, but if history is any indication, she might not appear in the final version.

In an interview with Vulture, the 42-year-old revealed that she shot scenes for the first film for a subplot about a domestic terrorist group. None of the scenes made the final cut.

“I got cut out of the first Anchorman,” she said. “I was a young gal, hadn’t even got my teeth fixed, and I played a bank teller that Maya Rudolph and her gang robbed. I got into a fight.”

Poehler added, “That was one of the coolest experiences because Adam McKay, who’s my friend and fellow UCB [Upright Citizen’s Brigade] member, was directing. Even back then, I was like, ‘This movie is so long, I’m never going to make it in this.’ I still feel that way.”

The Parks and Recreation star was invited to join the sequel, along with Tina Fey, Nicole Kidman, Drake, Harrison Ford, and Kristen Wiig. Poehler wasn’t so sure her scenes would make it past the cutting room floor.

“There are so many cameos,” she said. “But it was super fun. Those guys are so great and so funny. Will Ferrell’s really the most talented person in the world. He’s like a comedy Olympian.”

Poehler said she can’t spoil the new character, but it’s “an incredibly researched, in-depth character that I spent five to ten minutes thinking about before I did it.”

Anchorman 2 screened in California last month, and a few lucky people confirmed that the sequel holds up to the original film. Most of the original cast is returning for the sequel, but there are some new faces, too. In addition to the names mentioned above, Dylan Baker, James Marsden, Greg Kinnear and Kanye West also join the sequel.
