49ers’ Eric Reid On Track To Start Week Three After Concussion

San Francisco 49ers rookie safety Eric Reid is on track to start Sunday against the Colts after sustaining a concussion in week two. Great news for the Bay Area, not so much for Indianapolis.

Eric Reid was drafted by the 49ers with the 18th pick of the 2013 draft to replace Dashon Goldson. Two starts into his NFL career, Reid has looked as good, if not better than Goldson. However, his availability for week three was put into question after he sustained a concussion tackling Sidney Rice.

Before the tackle, Reid had intercepted Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson. After Reid left the game, things got ugly for san Francisco. The Seahawks, up 5-0 at halftime, went on to beat the 49ers 29-3 and set the Guiness World Record for crowd noise.

According to reports out of Santa Clara, Reid has passed every concussion test this week and should be able to play Sunday. He even told reporters, “I had no headache, felt perfectly normal and wanted to go back and play, but they hid my helmet somewhere.”

Hiding a player’s helmet after a blow to the head has become standard practice in the NFL these days. A number of players will lie about symptoms to get back into games. If the player’s helmet is hidden, they can’t play. The logic is pretty simple.

49ers defensive coordinator Vic Fangio told reporters that not only is Eric Reid on track to play Sunday, but so are the rest of San Francisco’s nicked up defenders. The defense should be full strength to face Andrew Luck and the newly acquired Trent Richardson.

Speaking of Trent Richardson, Eric Reid played against the bruising running back in college. Maybe he can give the team insight on how to stop the Colts shiny new toy.

Are you surprised Eric Reid in on track to start Sunday? Should the 49ers be more cautious with their promising rookie?
