So far in the 2010 NFL playoffs, home field not much of an advatage

It is sometime in the AM of Sunday January 16th. To date there have been six games in the 2011 NFL playoffs, and only twice as the home team been able to win. Some of them we could have guessed, like Seattle winning at home last week with their tremendous home field advantage. Some are harder to explain, like The Green Bay Packers beating the Atlanta Falcons in a stadium where the Falcons have played incredibly well.

For the Falcons it gets a whole lot worse. TE Tony Gonzales walked off the turf off the Georgia Dome without the first playoff win of his career. This guy he a lock for the pro football hall of fame and his career could end without a playoff win. Another nugget from this game is the play of QB Aaron Rodgers, the better he plays and the more dirt that gets thrown at Brett Favre the more it looks like the Packers made the right choice two years ago.

The Pittsburgh Steelers who took out the Baltimore Ravens at home. That is not so shocking as these were two pretty good teams, and that was a game that could have gone either way.

So I read somewhere that over the last 10 years home teams are just 10-10 in the Divisional round of the NFL playoffs. So far in 2011 they are 1-1, and the home team is just 2-4 through out the playoffs as a whole. That means home field means little at most NFL stadiums, and good teams play well when and where they have to.
