James Gunn Clarifies ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ Casting Rumors: ‘IMDB Is Not Always Correct’

Guardians of the Galaxy creator James Gunn is shutting down some rumors about the film’s cast.

The film’s IMDB page lists cast members that have not yet been confirmed, including Vin Diesel as Groot. While Diesel fueled speculation by posting a picture of Groot on his Facebook page and later deleting it, Marvel has yet to make an official announcement on his casting.

When asked why certain names weren’t listed on IMDB, Gunn said that the full cast isn’t being revealed yet.

“IMDB is not always correct. Even right now I believe it contains misinformation,” Gunn told ComicBook.com.“A complete cast list will not be released until closer before release — and we are not currently releasing a list of all the characters in the film.”

Gunn added, “That said, Stephen Blackehart and my brother Sean are in the film but my good friend Steve Agee is unfortunately not. Although he would make a great Thanos (not really).”

Gunn also explained that Agee didn’t even audition for the film.

“Besides my brother and Gregg Henry, and a couple of others, we pretty much cast all of the supporting roles out of England,” Gunn said. “There’s a lot of take there, so it wasn’t hard! I love working with Steve, though – he’s a great friend and an incredibly funny guy.”

So far, Bradley Cooper, Zoe Saldana, Chris Pratt, and Dave Bautista are confirmed for Guardians of the Galaxy. Cooper voices the anthropomorphic Rocket Raccoon, Saldana plays Gamora, the adopted daughter of Thanos, and Bautista plays Drax the Destroyer. Pratt plays Star-Lord, the leader of the Guardians.

The Walking Dead‘s Michael Rooker, Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace, Benicio del Toro, Glenn Close, and Karen Gillan have also been confirmed for the film.

Guardians of the Galaxy is set for an August 1, 2014 release.
