Double-Decker Bus Hit By Train In Ottawa, Multiple Fatalities Reported


A double decker bus was hit by a train this morning in Canada. Details about the crash are not known at this time but Marc Messier, a spokesman with the fire department, said that multiple people died in the crash.

CTV reports that the passenger trail derailed after it hit a double-decker bus at Fallowfield Road and Woodroffe Avenue in Ottawa. The front of the bus was completely destroyed.

One witness said that the front end was “ripped off.”

The Business Insider reports that a Via Rail passenger train and an OC Transpo bus were involved in the crash.

Messier didn’t know how many people were killed in the crash but he did say that all of the fatalities were on the bus. According to CBC World Report, at least five people were killed in the crash.

There were also several injuries on the bus. The fire department spokesman said that there were no serious injuries on the train.

The CBC reports that all of the Fire fighters and emergency responders in Ottawa are currently heading toward the scene. The Transportation Safety Board of Canada said that it would send investigators to the crash site.
