P!nk Is Billboard’s ‘Woman Of The Year’


Singer P!nk released her sixth full-length studio album in September, and it quickly became her first No. 1 album release on the BIllboard 200. Now the superstar singer has been recently named as Billboard’s “Woman of the Year.”

The singer’s album also marked the fourth time that P!nk, born Alecia Moore, reached the No. 1 single spot on the Hot 100. Her song “Just Give Me A Reason,” which features Fun.’s Nate Ruess, has become one of the summers biggest hits.

After learning of the honor P!nk told Billboard:

“I was absolutely shocked and surprised to hear that Billboard named me Woman of the Year. It’s been an incredible year and I feel so grateful to radio for sticking by me, and to the fans and friends and all of the incredible talent that I was fortunate enough to work with for this album.”

P!nk’s The Truth About Love album has witnessed significant airplay since September thanks to the singles “Blow Me (One Last Kiss),” “Try,” “Just Give Me A Reason,” and “True Love.”

Billboard’s women of the year is currently in the midst of a tour for the new album. P!nk is performing shows around the world with stops at 140 venues. Concert ticket sales have been quick for the singer who has been going strong since her 2000 debut “Can’t Take Me Home.”

Before her latest album the singer/songwriter has managed to release all five of her previous albums in the top 10 on the Billboard 200.

Speaking about Billboard’s decision to award P!nk woman of the year honors, Bill Werde, Billboard’s Editorial Director, proclaimed:

P!nk has almost been in a class by herself among women in music this year, and we’re thrilled to recognize her successes by honoring her with the Billboard Woman of the Year Award. When our 2013 mid-year numbers were released, she had the top-selling album and song for a woman, and a blockbuster, sold-out, international arena tour.”

Recent winners include Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, and Beyonce.
