Big changes looming for the New Orleans Saints

The loss suffered by the New Orleans Saints last Saturday is the kind of loss that could cost a lot of people their jobs. If their coach was not wearing a Super Bowl ring that was the kind of loss that could have lead to a coaching change. Since the Saints are just one year removed from winning the big game, drastic changes like that are unlikely to come. However, with 28 potential free agents this could be a very different looking team once we start playing football again. A lot of those could be unrestricted free agents.

Jeremy Shockey and Reggie Bush are two highly paid players, who have big contract numbers next year. Their games are a tad bit off, and I do not see anyway that both of them make it back to the Saints for 2011. Shockey would be easy to replace with Jimmy Graham, even though both are favorites of head coach Sean Payton.

In the defensive secondary I would suspect Darren Sharper has played his last game as a Saint, and possibly his finally NFL game period. The Saints need a new, young Safety prospect to pair with Malcom Jenkins and with the 24th overall pick could draft one there. QB Drew Brees is entering a contract year as well.

Beyond all of that many key role players on this team will likely be free agents, and something must be done to improve the D line, which had a very down year. Will Smith had a very disappointing year and they may need to find a replacement there plus some younger prospects on the D line and in the LB corps.
