Johnny Manziel Comeback Thwarted By No. 1 Alabama

In the weekend’s biggest college matchup, number one ranked Alabama thwarted a Johnny Manziel comeback attempt to beat number 6 Texas A&M 49-42.

Manziel and Texas A&M came out of the gate fast with two touchdowns and 14-0 lead. Then defending national champion A.J. McCarron and Alabama came to life.

Once Alabama hit the gas, they didn’t slow down until fourth quarter. Just enough time for Johnny Football to show why he’s America’s most exciting college athlete.

Faced with a 42-21 deficit and 15 minutes to go, Johnny Manziel brought Texas A&M back to life. He threw his third touchdown with 13 minutes left in the game. It was a 12-yard pass to Malcolm Kennedy.

Alabama drove the ball downfield next. The Aggie defense made a brilliant goal line stand that ended in a turnover. So far so good.

With 95-yards to go Manziel wasted no time. On third down he launched a 95-yard touchdown pass to Mike Evans. Suddenly the score was 42-35 and the comeback was looking real.

Johnny Manziel’s comeback was thwarted on Alabama’s next drive. A.J. Mccarron led the Crimson Tide downfield in a long six minute drive, capped by a short touchdown pass to Jalston Fowler. With 2:28 left on the clock Texas A&M suddenly trailed by two scores.

Manziel refused to give up. With luck on his side, he led a quick Aggie touchdown drive and left 15 seconds on the clock. Just enough time for an onside kick and a hail mary.

Unfortunately for Manziel, Alabama recovered the onside kick and the game was over. The Crimson Tide breathed a sigh of relief after a well fought 49-42 victory.

Johnny Manziel may have had his comeback thwarted, but he once again why he’s become so popular nationwide. He finished the game with 464 yards and five touchdowns.
