What should the Denver Broncos do?

The Denver Broncos and new Football czar John Elway have a very important decision on their hands. Who should they hire to coach the team? Most of the names bantered about are offensive guys, probably a move to find someone to help QB Tim Tebow be a legit NFL starting QB. Personally I think this is the wrong way to go. I would hire a defensive minded Head Coach, and let him find an Offensive Coordinator to work with Tebow. It is far easier to fire an offensive coordinator than a head coach, and if Tebow flames out it seems likely someone will lose their job.

Since the Broncos seem set in their thinking that the next coach must be willing to give Tebow the job, many top tier candidates will not take the Broncos seriously. Tebow is a gigantic question mark and why would anyone risk their employment on him? In my mind it makes way more sense to hire a defensive head coach and get the defense fixed. Let us not forget the defense is the bigger problem here. It is a problem that can be fixed by scheme and personnel moves, the Tebow question needs time.

It is that time that is keeping many away from this job, and most of the names associated with this job are offensive guys. Guys like Saints OC Rick Dennison, and Las Vegas Locos head man Jim Fassel. Of those two Dennison makes more sense since he is a Denver guy, but basing this decision on the likelihood Tebow is their guy seems a little short sighted.

If this were my team I would rather risk Tebow on an OC than a head coach. Firing a head coach is never good, and usually leads to a lot of unrest amongst the players and the team’s fan base. Firing an OC is way easier and since there is no lock that Tebow is the guy why risk another head coach on him?
