‘The Man From U.N.C.L.E.’: Luca Calvani To Play The Villain Opposite Henry Cavill, Armie Hammer

The Man From U.N.C.L.E., has a new villain in the form of Luca Calvani, who will make life miserable for Henry Cavill and Armie Hammer in the Guy Ritchie’s reboot of the 1960s television series.

Cavill and Hammer will bring back to life CIA agent Napoleon Solo and KGB spy Illya Kuryakin when the film opens in theaters next year.

In the original, Robert Vaughn (The Magnificent Eleven) played Solo and David McCallum (NCIS) portrayed Kuryakin.

The story is set during the contentious days of the Cold War when Solo and Kuryakin put aside their political differences and join forces to participate in a mission against a mysterious criminal organization, which is working to proliferate nuclear weapons.

Luca Calvani, who appears in The Bold And The Beautiful, When In Rome, and The International is not only an actor, but also an Italian model, who has worked with some of the biggest names in the industry including Giorgio Armani. He hails from Tuscany, Italy and, after graduating college, moved to New York to study acting.

The Man From U.N.C.L.E. is the first film that will be produced under the Ritchie/Wigram banner, and they also struck a deal with Warner Bros., who will distribute the movie in the US.

Joining Henry Cavill (Man Of Steel), Armie Hammer (The Lone Ranger), and Luca Calvani are Alicia Vikander (Anna Karenina), Elizabeth Debicki (The Great Gatsby), Jared Harris (Sherlock Holmes: Game Of Shadows), and Hugh Grant (Cloud Atlas, Bridget Jones’ Diary).

Guy Rtichie is, of course, the director behind the new and improved Sherlock Holmes films starring Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), which have been received favorably.

Producer Lionel Wigram stated:

“Guy and I have long loved these characters, and wanted to start from scratch with our own take and create a film steeped in the 1960s for today’s audiences. We are particularly happy about our cast, who all bring something special to the film. Henry, Armie, Alicia and Elizabeth are among the best and most exciting actors of the next generation. In addition, we are thrilled to be working with Hugh Grant, who we have known and been fans of for many years, and Jared Harris, who did such a great job for us as Moriarty.”

The Man From U.N.C.L.E. is being filmed on location in London, Rome, and Naples.
