It seems a recession-battered America was captivated by last night’s Mega Millions jackpot drawing, crashing both the Mega Millions website and Twitter in hopes of getting a piece of the $355 million loot.
A message posted on the Mega Millions site said the page’s regular content was suspended in order to give players better access to the site:
Due to unprecedented traffic, our regular web site has been temporarily minimized to provide access to the greatest number of players possible.
Winning numbers will be posted shortly after the drawing.
Two winning tickets- matching the five numbers drawn as well as the “Mega ball” number- were sold, one in Idaho and one in Washington state. Winners have not yet been identified, and it is not known if the two have yet stepped forward. 62 people across 21 states matched five of the six numbers to win $250,000, but did not select the winning “Mega Ball” number of 42.
