Akeem Ayers leaves UCLA for 2011 NFL Draft

The latest underclassman to declare for the 2011 NFL draft is UCLA OLB Akeem Ayers. This is a really easy decision for him, if an underclassman has a shot at being a first or second round pick he should jump to the pros, for Ayers he is a lock to be a top 20 pick, and that means you have to go. There is no way Ayears makes it past the Detroit Lions, or New York Giants in the middle part of the first round of the coming NFL draft.

Ayers is a big time force at the LB position. Despite missing time in 2010 with nagging injuries he was still a first team All Pac-10 performer, and for any team that lists LB as their primary needs Ayers is giving their scouts a lot to think about. There are so many teams that could use a young LB prospect that these is no freaking way that he survives 15 or 16 picks.

As a Detroit Lions fan I would love to see him in the Honolulu blue and silver and that may very well come to fruition. The Lions need another star on the defense and could use one at LB, CB, or at DE. Their scouting staff will have to scout all of the possibilities and Lions General Manger Martin Mayhew will have to decide where to add to the roster with the 13th overall pick.

With all of that being said many thing will change between now and April’s draft. Akeem could perform poorly at the Scouting Combine or god knows what else, but as of right now he is a first half of the first round pick.
