Michelle Pfeiffer Talks Going Bad For ‘The Family’

Michelle Pfeiffer’s role in The Family may look familiar for those who saw her in her breakout roles in Married To The Mob, and Scarface. In years following those films, Pfeiffer mixed it up I Am Sam, One Fine Day, and Up Close & Personal. That said, her return to the dark side is one welcomed, and a switch that may appear new for those just checking out her body of work.

Pfeiffer’s role in The Family sees her starring opposite Robert De Niro. The two, along with their children make up a notorious mafia clan, who despite their best efforts, can’t kiss that lifestyle goodbye. The Manzoni family are sent to Normandy under the witness protection program, in hopes that they’ll stay out of trouble, but if anything, their run ins with their neighbors prove that it’s hard to escape their natural instincts.

Pfeiffer spoke to Robin Roberts of Good Morning America to discuss how it feels turning dark and twisted for her new role in The Family. Of her role Pfeiffer said:

“It’s fun. I love it. I’ve always been fascinated with this world, and these people, and these women. I think most people are. I had the most fun doing Married To The Mob, and I was so excited to revisit that world.”

On her co-star Robert De Niro, she said: “He’s definitely on my bucket of actors I want to work with. I’ve been in two movies with him, but we never actually been on the set together. I was thrilled. He’s really there for all of the other actors, and is incredibly generous. I was surprised at how open he was.”

So now that Michelle Pfeiffer is making a return to form in her acting career, what’s next for the actress? Pfeiffer said she wants to get into more action-y type films, telling Roberts: “I better do it soon, or it’ll be granny with a gun. I still can. I was a 24 obsessed person. Don’t we all want to be Jack Bauer?”

Catch Michelle Pfeiffer in her role as Maggie in The Family when it hits theater this Friday.
