Actor Pete Postlethwaite dies at 64


British character actor Pete Postlethwaite died of cancer Sunday at the age of 64.

Postlethwaite was nominated for an Academy Award in 2003 for his role in the Daniel Day Lewis film In the Name of the Father, and was later dubbed “the best actor in the world” by Stephen Spielberg, with whom he worked on The Lost World: Jurassic Park. Postlethwaite also starred in Romeo + Juliet, Brassed Off, and The Usual Suspects. Most recently, he appeared in one of the larger films of 2010, Inception. In 2004, he was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire.

Postlethwaite was treated for prostate cancer two decades ago, and more recently for testicular cancer. He reportedly continued to work through his most recent cancer treatment. He is survived by his wife, son and daughter.
