Nicolas Cage, Emma Stone, and Ryan Reynolds will reportedly reprise their roles in The Croods 2. Work on the sequel is currently underway.
The folks at 20th Century Fox found themselves with a colossal hit on their hands earlier this year. Since directors Kirk De Micco and Chris Sanders' animated comedy struck a chord with audiences, the studio quickly moved forward with a follow-up.
According to Coming Soon, Cage, Stone, and Reynolds are officially on-board for The Croods 2. The filmmakers recently confirmed the actors' involvement with the sequel during a recent interview with the website.
De Micco and Sanders might be working on the sequel right now, but it could be a while before the film hits theaters. However, the directors said that fans of the original flick shouldn't be disappointed whatsoever in the follow-up.
"There's not much to talk about yet because we've got a big lump of clay and we're forming it as we speak," Sanders explained to the website.
De Micco added, "[There will be] lots of good creatures. We've got creatures that never got into the first movie. We're going to take a very, very close look at those."
Producers are no doubt hoping to recapture the magic that lured countless families to theaters earlier this year. Once the film had ended its theatrical run around the world, The Croods had amassed an impressive $585 million at the box office.
The boys and girls at 20th Century Fox still stand to make a pretty penny on the property this holiday season. Chances are The Croods will be a pretty big hit with families on Blu-ray and DVD. The home video release is currently scheduled for October 1.
