Monday Night Raw: Cody Rhodes Drama Draws In Brother Dustin Rhodes

Monday Night Raw last week saw Cody Rhodes lose a match — and seemingly his WWE contract — to Randy Orton. This week Dustin Rhodes gave it his best effort to win his brother’s job back.

The September 9 episode of Raw featured Dustin Rhodes facing off against Orton, with brother Dustin’s contract supposedly on the line.

Behind the scenes, there’s a good reason for Cody’s absence. The rising WWE star is taking a bit of time away from the ring to marry longtime girlfriend Brandi Reed.

Reed was a former developmental talent in the WWE working under the name Eden Stiles, but left the organization in 2011 and is now the owner of a company called Confection Swimwear Inc.

With his wedding all planned out, the WWE gave Cody a dramatic sendoff on the September 2 episode. He fought Randy Orton in a “career-threatening match,” and after Cody Rhodes nearly won with his signature Cross Rhodes move, the Viper ended the match with an RKO.

Triple H mocked Rhodes after the match, then fired him.

The absence gives the Rhodes family a chance to shine. Dustin Rhodes and Cody are brothers in real life, and their father is legendary wrestler Dusty Rhodes. Throughout the episode, Dustin Rhodes got the star treatment, including several segments dedicated to him and his match with Orton.

Monday Night Raw gave no indication how long Cody Rhodes will be away from the ring, but he may have to earn his way back into WWE. Dustin Rhodes lost his match with Randy Orton the same way his brother did the week before, at the hands of the RKO.
